Tom McSwain, Partner and President
Tom is one of the founding members of the firm and specializes in all aspects of employee benefits with special emphasis on business development and modeling of employee benefit plans for large group employers. This expertise includes not only medical plan design but also the design of corporate-paid and voluntary ancillary benefits. Tom’s experience in these areas gives employers the very best value within their total benefits package. Tom is a graduate of North Carolina State University and is an avid Wolfpack fan. He also enjoys a round of golf, when time permits. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Kathy, for 35 years and they have 3 grown daughters. Tom is an active member of First Baptist Church in Sanford, NC and holds numerous leadership positions in the church as well as in the community.
Bill Kiser, Partner and Treasurer
Bill, a founding member of the firm, specializes in the design, implementation, and management of self-insured employee benefit plans and also focuses on fully insured benefit plans for smaller employers. Bill also has vast experience in the individual insurance product lines and can provide clients options for individual life insurance, disability insurance, and long term care insurance. Bill received his BA degree from Wofford College and a Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina. Bill has been married to Margaret for nearly 35 years and they have 2 grown children. Bill is a member of First United Methodist Church in Fuquay-Varina and also serves on the Board of the Piedmont Community Health Care Alliance.
Jim Kiser, Partner and Secretary
Jim, a founding member of the firm, specializes in the technology side of the business which includes all internal systems as well as client specific data management. Jim is responsible for new product implementation, data interface needs, and ongoing service related to technology for our national accounts along with our large NC based clients. Jim received his BS degree in Business Administration/Economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Jim has been married to Susan for nearly 31 years and they have 2 grown children. Jim is a member of University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill NC.
Jim Powers, Partner
Jim has been with the firm since 2006 and is responsible for Pinnacle’s office administration as well as its subsidiary companies, COBRA Direct, Payroll Direct, GetNCHealthInsurance.com, and HR Direct. Jim is a graduate of East Carolina University and holds certifications as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Certified COBRA Administrator (CCA). Prior to joining Pinnacle Benefit Resources, Jim held managerial positions in Human Resources, Training and Development, Compensation and Benefits, and Payroll Administration with several firms. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Amanda, and they have 2 grown children. Jim is a member of First Baptist Church in Sanford, NC.
